I have incredible news for my fellow lingerie-lovers. Arnotts have just opened a gorgeous new Lingerie Department, relocated to Level 1 in their Henry Street store, so now it’s even easier to access the best brands and achieve the ultimate in underwear fittings.
To mark the occasion, I popped in to see the new space and ended up shopping – of course – and having an amazing experience getting measured with the fabulous Martina – one of the expert fitters. I cannot stress just how important the perfect fit is. No dress, no-matter how fabulous, will ever sit correctly without the appropriate bra supporting you underneath. And never is that clearer than when you finally find the one (brassiere, I mean – not man).
Initially when I arrived into the store, I headed straight for my go-to, which is Wacoal. But, fancying a change, I approached Martina for her advice on an alternative and she recommended Fantasie – a sister brand of Wacoal.
I was really impressed with the selection and how attractive the lingerie was, which often isn’t the case for fuller cup designs. There was no compromising on style for the sake of shape – you get both! And they had a variety of styles – plunge, balcony and full – to suit every outfit in my wardrobe.
Fantasie even have a range made with memory foam, which moulds to the body for a perfect shape and a soft feel!
After helping me choose a variety of styles and colours – including a stunning navy/purple lace option – Martina brought me to the changing room for my complimentary fitting. It turned out I was actually between sizes on the band. As I came in at a 35, she advised to go down to a 34 and I immediately noticed the difference. A great tip is to put your clothes back on over the new bra to see how it looks when dressed, which I did, and the results were better than I could have imagined.
Martina also guided me as to where the central bone of the bra cups should sit. It should rest on the skin in the valley of your cleavage, as then the cup size is spot on and you’re getting the correct amount of support. But, it shouldn’t sit too high, just in case you want to show off a plunging neckline!
I have to say, and it’s something to watch out for, I was surprised at the differing sizes between colours. Black bras tend to run a tad smaller in the fit, so there’s a lesson there in always trying on before you purchase. Martina is an absolute pro and she filled me in on all of these tips as she worked.
In the end I came away with a new love: Fantasie. And Martina! Ok, two new loves! And two new lingerie sets, which will be worn with everything now.
No-matter the style, your shape, or the reason you’re in search of lingerie, Arnotts is a fantastic one-stop destination. Not only does it have the largest Lingerie Department in Ireland, but the product and brand selection, as well as the expert staff and service is well worth the visit. I’ll be back!
