LIFE COLUMN: ROSE GLOW

Everything is coming up roses – from hand cream, to eye palettes, to skincare – so our sweet-smelling expert, TRIONA MCCARTHY, is feeling rather flowery.

TRIONA’S TOP TRENDS

Everything is about roses in the beauty world this season – ever since the flower returned to the forefront of the fashionable ingredient pool. Check out Dior Miss Dior’s Nourishing Rose Scented Hand Cream, €43, which will soften your hands without an oily or greasy feel. Centifolia rose water added to the formula helps to sooth the skin.

Lierac Hydragenist Moisturising Cream-Gel Oxygenating Replumping, €45, is a cream-gel formula that the makers claim restores the complexion and has a feminine fragrance of rose water.

Follow it with Pixi Skintreats Rose Tonic, €13.50, a rose and elderflower nourishing toner, which has a rose hydrosol base that works to balance the pH levels of the skin, minimising redness and pores.

Now, it’s not just rose-scented products this week – Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Face Mixology Custom Drops, €35, comes in four shades, including of course, Rose Glow. To emphasize the contours of the face and warm up the complexion, simply pop a drop in with your regular foundation to add a slight rosy flush to the face.

Then there’s the In Love With Rose palette from essence, the budget-beauty brand. It has a mix of matte and metallic rose hues that really make my eyes pop!

Elf Beauty Shield Lipstick, €10.80, in Dusty Rose Shield, is a satin lipstick that protects your lips against daily environmental aggressors.

TRIONA’S TRICK

Did you ever get a pressie of fancy soap that looks much too pretty to use? Do as I do and pop it in your drawers. Your lingerie drawers, silly! It will make your smalls smell extra delicious. Mmmm, the sweet smell of sexcess!

STRAIGHT OUTTA THE 1990’S

The delightful designer Dawn Fitzgerald is Will’s bestie, so along with her other half Duffy, we double-date a lot. Of course, Dawn and I love nothing better than the beauty and fashion banter. We both adore the return of that high-octane 1990’s glamout from the  height of the supermodel era – with straight, luxurious, glossy hair, full of movement.

The new ghd Gold Styler, €169 – featuring dual-zone technology for premium performance, an improved heat-up time of only 25 seconds, a modernised design for smooth, snag-free styling and automatic sleep mode – is the only way to for the modern-look straight hair that’s so hot this season.

VERY FETCHING

I’ve discovered some brilliant beauty brands from fetchbeauty.com, which has plans for a pop-up shop!

The founder, Lucy McPhail was previously a beauty buyer for Harrods, but she’s now back in Dublin, where I met up with her to dip into her pretty products.

The Molecular Savior Mist, €66, from Allies of Skin, is a must for me, as I fly a lot, just like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. Every spritz of the mist delivers a potent dose of soothing anti-bacterial and restorative nutrients that work throughout the day to refine pores and counteract the effects of jet lag and fatigue.

CULT PRODUCT

Will is a retired rally driver, and now races model cars all over Europe. Actually, do rally drivers ever retire? I often wonder as much, when we’re out for a spin! Anyhoo, I recently picked up a bottle of Paco Rabanne Invictus Aqua, €63, for him and I must admit, it was the bottle that initially attracted me. It looks like a mini trophy, so I had lots of fun ‘presenting’ it to him! The actual scent is seriously stylish and a tad racy – just like Will himself!
