A Major Moisture Boost: The Ordinary’s 100% Plant-Derived Squalane

The Ordinary is a special beauty brand, one that needs more praise than it usually receives. Their uncomplicated packaging and descriptions, as well as the simplicity and task-focused philosophy they project when it comes to their products are very refreshing.

This time they have given us Squalane oil. Squalane is a hydrocarbon found in the skin (relax, this bottled version is extracted from plants only), so the idea is to have it in saturated form and use it as a natural moisturiser. The bonus with this ‘oil’, is that it’s suitable for all skin types, targeting dryness and damaged skin across the board. It’s water-free, oil-free (funnily enough), silicone-free, nut-free, gluten-free, vegan and cruelty-free, so no-matter your moral stance on things, or your allergies, it’s pretty much suitable for all.

After cleaning the face, pop a few drops into your hand (no more than four, as it spreads very easily) and gently massage the product over and around the face, avoiding the eyes. It has a lovely slip to it, gliding easily over every inch. Unless you’re planning to wash your locks, keep it away from the hairline as an overdose does tend to make it a tad greasy. However, if your hair needs a treatment or shine, rub a few drops between your fingers and gently apply to damp hair throughout the ends and lengths.

My skin really did feel new the morning after my first go of this. It was so silky and had a gentle glow. Definitely a handy one to have on the shelf coming into winter! You can order a bottle at cloud10beauty.com for €7.20. Steal!
