We all deserve a bit of extravagance, even in January, and I’m championing that philosophy, with lots of lust-worthy treats for the gloomiest month of the year!
TRIONA’S TOP TRENDS
The party season has ended now – and it’s really dawned on me that you only really need three products in your make-up bag to get you from morning to midnight. Let’s do a Party McCarthy researched segment for you, so you don’t have to suffer in January.
The first key product is foundation. Even the longest-lasting set foundations fade or are disturbed throughout the day, so you’ll want something you can fix. Tom Ford Traceless Foundation, €77, is ideal. It’s light and build-able – so you could start with a thin layer in the morning going to work and top it up to a fuller coverage that evening.
Next, the NARS’ NARSissist Loaded Eyeshadow Palette, €55. With 12 shades that look as expensive as they feel velvety, this is the ultimate in luxe eye colour. But it’s also the ultimate in terms of shade choice. You have a wise selection of nudes and browns, all wearable in different ways.
Pop a soft brown on during the day and simply accentuate it with a deeper shade or a touch of black later-on. However, don’t limit this palette to eyes. It has a mix of matte and shimmers, so feel free to use the matte browns to define your brows, while popping some of the shimmering nudes onto the cheeks as a blush/contour.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Hot Lips KIM K.W. Fallen From The Lipstick Tree, €32.00, is a delightful pick, and its slight sheen means you can dab some on your fingertips and pop it just above the apples of your cheeks as a highlighter.
Top tip: Once you’ve applied mascara in the morning, you don’t need to do so again. It will just look spidery. One application and you’re done!
Parfumarijah – which is a beautifully designed space – has heaps of hard-to-come-by brands. It’s a treat to just spend some time there. It’s where I discovered Amouage Beloved Woman Perfume, €350 for 100ml, my new go-to going out finishing touch. It’s a very grown-up, sophisticated, yet sexy kind of fragrance, that I can see someone like Julianne Moore wearing. According to perfumer Guy Robert, Amouge Gold Woman is the crowning glory of his career.

Giorgio Armani’s Nail Lacquer Limited Edition in Rouge Eclipse, €24.00, is a lava-look, molten HOT polish. It’s a great inexpensive treat to liven up your LBD. Red nails may be a classic, but this takes classic to a new, sexed-up, level. An unusual formula of resin and crystal, it transforms from a gel-like texture, to a liquid, then dries solidly on the nail, setting like a thick top coat for ultimate perfection. The results are high-glossed, brilliant burgundy nails that will get you noticed.
A quick hair revive will make you a new person. If you’re in work late, keep a dry shampoo or something like Warriors Cocoa Powder Shampoo, €16, from my home county – Cork – on your desk. Haircare’s answer to the refresh button!
Crème de la Mer, €265, is always a winner when it’s unwrapped! I was lucky enough to get one of the limited editions of the legendary moisturiser, which, as you can see, comes in a beautiful pot, adorned in copper, burnt red and gold. Created to perfect skin – the makers claim it reduces lines, induces moisture and minimises pores – this cream carries on its good work with vigour!
If you’ve ever struggled with liquid liner, then don’t walk, run, to your nearest Shiseido stockist and buy the Inkstroke Eyeliner Brush, €28, as it gives amazing, professional-looking results. You basically hold the brush one way for the eyeliner and flip it over if you want to create wings. That’s it. I literally could not believe my own beautifully lined eyes! Use with one of the six unique, gel-based Inkstroke Eyeliner Ink Colour, €28, – although the black is such a classic look!
