Life Mag Column: Lip Tricks

For all the best beauty tricks, lipsticks and hair colour slicks, our mouthy beauty expert, has her usual mix of make-up and madness.

I spotted this Good Girl fragrance from Carolina Herrera, below, €89, on Snapchats from Grangegorman’s White Moose Cafe. Its owners, Paul and Jason, were in NYC and wandering around Macys, when Paul spotted this. Of course, I googled it straightaway.

Appara, it’s the first fragrance bottle in the form of a high heel. It’s got notes of tuberose and tonka, and is great for showing-off purposes as it also doubles as a phone holder!

As we all know, a great night’s sleep is the best beauty enhancer ever. If you’re a terrible insomniac like Lady Gaga, above, then book yourself in for the Elemis Sleep Tight Spa Treatment, €80, which I had at Inchydoney Island Lodge & Spa.

It began with a luxurious lavender foot ritual, followed by an amazing back, neck and shoulder massage, using powerful lavender-infused Elemis Oil. It totally de-stressed my mind and body and left my skin soft and supple. A Herbal Lavender Repair Facial followed, which honestly made my skin glow. But, best of all, I slept like a baby!

The ‘all-in-one’ Multi Lift Serum from Declare

I’m writing this from the Declare HQ in Austria, where I met with the brand’s creator, Karl J Troll, and his daughter, Barbara.

Declare was the first manufacturer to develop cosmetics for sensitive skin, and more than 30 years after they launched, they’re still considered the market leader.

The ‘all-in-one’ Multi Lift Serum, above, €59.95, is genius. This all-rounder redefines and tightens facial contours, firms and smoothes and regulates the formation of melanin, making dark patches fade.

The best bath soak? Mix some Epsom salts with some pink Himalayan salt, which is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial, and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil for a refreshing scent, or lavender for a more relaxing time.

Joico’s InstaTint Temporary Colour Shimmer Spray in Orchid

Joico’s new InstaTint Temporary Colour Shimmer Spray in Orchid, above €6.50, comes in four other colours: Fiery Coral, Mermaid Blue, Pink, and Sapphire Blue. They’re kinda like hair make-up! Get instant colour with zero commitment, as you can wash it out when you’re fed up of it – with a bit of minding, it lasts three days.

Spray the product directly on to your hair for a fab pop of colour, or mix and mingle all the shades to create a custom tint.

Code Lip Intense Plumper

Everyone I know wants bigger, fuller lips right now, but going down the filler route isn’t always an option. So listen up, lovelies, because luscious lips here knows what to do!

Steer clear of darker shades, as they make thin lips look even thinner. Opt for colours with a hint of gloss and sheen in them, rather than matte textures, which can actually look quite aging.

Code SSL Soft Smooth Lip Liner

Code Lip Intense Plumper, above, €29, available at, Harvey Nichols and, is my new favourite lip plumping treatment – it instantly plumps, but the more you apply it, the better the results!

The magic ingredients help to redefine the natural contours of the lips, and create a more youthful, sculpted look. It even contains compounds that protect the lips from sun damage, and helps minimise the appearance of small vertical lines.

I use it with Code SSL Soft Smooth Lip Liner, below, €26, which comes in one perfect shade. It’s self-sharpening and contains a natural peptide which stimulates collagen giving definition, volume, hydration and softness.

Finally, pop a bit of benefit’s Watt’s Up!, below, €35, just on the Cupid’s bow to highlight your lips and magically make them look more pronounced.
