There is something exhilarating about being backstage at a fashion show (aren’t I lucky!). Yes, it’s madness, full of movement, panic and impossibly gorgeous models, but at least you can see things in person and up-close. Naturally, not everyone gets a chance to get a look in, so Armani have brought more than their fashion out from behind the runway. The exclusive, limited edition Giorgio Armani Runway Fall/Winter 2016 makeup collection aims to recreate the look of the season’s runway beauty. Created backstage by the supremely talented Linda Cantello, International Makeup Artist for Armani, the look features a very clean, but (un)naturally flawless, bright complexion, a tinted nude lip and light-ridden lids.
It’s notably nice in its simplicity, given that there are just three products (this certainly makes it easier on the Christmas funds too), the Runway Palette, €120, Eye Tint, €45 and Rouge D’Armani Lipstick, €45. For the palette, Linda Cantello was inspired by the clothing collection, which included velvet and floral mixes, so this is the approach taken in terms of feel and colour. The palette has two tiers, the top containing a mattifying, luminous powder, whilst a trio of eyeshadows are hidden underneath. The shadows will make you swoon with how pretty they are. A velvet black, shiny champagne and silky mauve greige make up the colours, allowing for a soft or dramatic application, depending on where you place each colour. Dramatic for me, please! For this product in particular, the packaging is well worth noting. The palette comes in a beautiful little pouch of the same fabric used in the AW16 clothing line. It’s all about the finishing touches.
The Eye Tint is best used for creating points of light and shimmer. It is workable when wet and then dries to a soft, cream-like texture, to make sure it stays put. You can use it over the shadows or on its own for a shiny, dewy eyelid. The look is topped off by the Rouge D’Armani Lipstick in a super pretty nude that has a lavender tint when caught in the right light. Stunning.
Both small and beautiful, this collection has won me over. Don’t think I’m just being fooled by the gorgeous packaging! The products themselves are extremely wearable and though they are directly inspired by the AW16 show, these colours will take you into spring with ease. Subtle tones never disappear from the beauty scene – a particularly good buy if you’re looking to build a core collection of products to carry in your makeup bag. They’re pricey, but worth it.
